Erasmus+ Project Together Against Fake News: Resources for This Battle

From February 26 to March 5, 2024, we organized the new adventure of the Erasmus+ project here in Palestrina, together with our new partner friends:

Jordan (Seeds), France (Association Agir), Palestine (Youth Development Resource), Greek (Youth Path) and Egypt (Have a dream).

It was a unique opportunity to immerse ourselves in cultural diversity, make new friends and broaden our horizons!

These were days filled with workshops, stimulating activities and unforgettable moments. We want to share with you the days of this extraordinary adventure that left us with indelible memories.

Day #1

Today begins an incredible journey that brings us together from Italy, Jordan, France, Palestine, Greece and Egypt to tackle the challenge of combating fake news and promoting media literacy among our youth.

On this first day we dove headlong into the heart of our mission. Through introductory sessions, interactive and team-building activities, we intend to lay the foundation for an enriching and impactful experience.

Over the course of the day, we embarked on an engaging exploration of Palestrina, delving into its rich cultural heritage including a visit to the Diocesan Museum and an engaging workshop in the museum’s archives. During the workshop we explored the meaning of authenticity of sources, emphasizing the importance of verifying information.

At the end of the day, we gathered for reflection sessions, where we contemplated the learnings, insights and experiences of the day, preparing for future challenges and opportunities.

Day #2

Today is the second day of this exciting journey, during which we have engaged in a number of meaningful activities.

The day began with an excursion to Castel San Pietro Romano, the “City of Movie Stars,” where we had the opportunity to explore the history and charm of this iconic place, including a special visit to the Big Bench, a symbol of welcome and sharing.

Afterwards, we gathered to discuss “Our Realities,” sharing experiences and views on press freedom and media use in our partner countries.

In the afternoon, we explored the topic of mass media and its effects, critically examining its impact on society and our daily lives.

To end the day, we had a cultural dinner, during which participants from each country prepared and shared a typical dish from their own culture.

Day #3

Today we began the third day by addressing awareness and dealing with hate speech with the “You Are My Mirror” activity, exploring together ways to recognize and counter it in our society.

Next, we delved into communication skills, exploring various forms of communication and learning the importance of conveying information effectively.

In the afternoon, we gathered in focus groups to share our experiences and discuss the concepts learned.

Having completed this day of learning, we now find ourselves better equipped to face the challenges arising from the spread of fake news and misinformation with renewed determination.

Day #4

It was a busy day with many engaging activities.
The day began with inspiring Ted Talks, where we had the opportunity to hear and share innovative and inspiring ideas.
Next, we devoted ourselves to group video making, combining our ideas and creativity to produce meaningful and engaging content.

Day #5/6

The weekend gave us unforgettable experiences!

We explored Rome in an immersive journey enriched by the unique experience of the Invisible Guides. Walking through the ancient streets, we immersed ourselves in the city’s rich history, guided by the vibrant stories and cultural insights offered by the migrants who inhabit Rome every day. Thanks to this authentic and original perspective, we were able to perceive the city in a new and fascinating light.

Next, we ventured out to discover the treasures of the National Archaeological Museum in Palestrina. Here, immersed in the ancient history of the region, we explored evidence of the art, architecture and daily life of the ancient inhabitants, gaining valuable insights into the origins of civilization and the cultural richness of this fascinating area.

Between our explorations, we shared a delicious Sunday lunch, strengthening the bonds of friendship and camaraderie that unite us on this journey of discovery.

Day #7

Today was the final day of our wonderful Erasmus trip and we closed this unforgettable experience with a series of activities.
We began the day with an atmospheric walk in Genazzano, during which we discovered the hidden treasures of this charming village. Afterwards, we immersed ourselves in a nature therapy activity inside the castle, allowing the beauty of nature and the tranquility of the place to inspire and regenerate us.
Finally, we took time to reflect on the week we spent together, sharing our most precious thoughts, emotions and memories. It was a touching moment when we recognized the value of our shared experiences and the bonds we formed during this journey.
We would like to sincerely thank everyone who made this extraordinary experience possible: our organizers, participants and all the people who welcomed us with warmth and hospitality along the way. It was an unforgettable adventure that we will always carry in our hearts.
